Labour and Birth Services
We offer 3 different labour and birth support packages. All ensure continuity of care throughout.
Depending on the package you go for we can provide early labour assessments in your home and then be with you wherever you may choose to birth.
01
Hospital labour support
Provides you with advocacy and support during the birth of your baby. This offers you the opportunity to have continuity of carer during your hospital birth.
Whilst hospital midwives will come and go as their shift ends your Independent midwife will be constantly there to liaise with the midwife on shift, provide advice, advocacy, expertise, information, and emotional support. We also champion any decision you make and respect your choices.
02
Home or Hospital
I am on call 24 hours a day for your labour and will visit you at home day or night for an early labour assessment. This helps encourage oxytocin (the labour hormone), increasing your chances of having a straightforward easier birth and the related benefits of home birth.
Once you are in active labour you can decide to either transfer to the hospital, stay at home longer with monitoring, or have a home birth. I will always be prepared to support and lead you whatever you decide so you can make the choices that you feel are right for you as your labour progresses.
03
Home Birth
The UK government supports home births, as a woman's choice to have the birth she wants. Evidence indicates that the health outcomes of home births are just as good or better than those of hospital births, and there is also a range of practical and emotional benefits.
It has been found that women feel a greater sense of control over their birth at home and are more relaxed which in turn encourages a short, easier birth. Babies are also more appreciative of a relaxed and gentler environment.
Other benefits of home births include:
○ Increased maternal satisfaction
○ Decreased risk of postnatal depression
○ Reduced risk of caesarean section
○ Reduced risk of forceps delivery
○ Reduced risk of postpartum haemorrhage
○ Reduced risk of birth injuries

Having your own personal midwife & backup midwife means that Your midwives will get to know you during your pregnancy and be by your side, supporting your wishes, giving you information, interpreting results, helping you to make decisions and ensuring you feel nurtured, safe and cared for from the moment you discover you are pregnant until 6 weeks after your baby is born. This allows for a strong relationship to develop between your midwives and you, fostering trust, open communication, and personalised care.
-
Continuity of care means that the same midwife will be involved in your care from the beginning of your pregnancy until discharge after the birth. This allows for a strong relationship to develop fostering trust, open communication, and personalised care.
Continuity of care has been shown to have numerous benefits. Research has indicated that receiving continuity of care from a known midwife have higher rates of satisfaction with their birth experience, lower rates of interventions, and improved outcomes for both mother and baby.
-
Many of our clients are also booked under the NHS system, but unfortunately, they have found that their visits are short, infrequent and lack continuity. We aim to support your maternity journey depending on the level of care you choose either by supplementing NHS services or replacing it.
-
All our visits are in the comfort of your home, providing antenatal checks to ensure both you and your baby remain safe and well. Visits not only include a full antenatal assessment, but we also discuss a range of topics such as diet and nutrition, signs of labour, water birthing, delayed cord clamping, breastfeeding, and many more. You will have two midwives who will alternate visits and get to know you during your pregnancy. Appointments usually last an hour and we recommend that antenatal visits be carried out every 4 weeks until you are 28 weeks gestation then every 2 weeks until 36 weeks gestation, then weekly until you go into labour. This gives you almost twice the number of visits currently provided on the NHS.
-
Early labour, often referred to as the latent phase, is a crucial stage that sets the tone for the rest of the birthing process. Regardless of whether you are planning a homebirth or a hospital birth, providing holistic care during this initial phase is essential to ensure a positive and empowering birth experience. Instead of going back and forth to the hospital or trying to get through to triage we provide earl labour assessments in the comfort of your own home
-
We only accept a limited number of clients each month, which allows us to ensure we are always available for you when you go into labour.
If you plan to have your baby at the hospital or if you transfer to one because your labour is no longer a low risk, we accompany you and act as an advocate and support with a non clinical role. We will know your birth plan and so know what you want, we can help you to achieve your ideal birth.
If you have a homebirth one to one support from your independent midwives can allow you to have a positive birth experience with home comforts like your bed when you need it most. We help you prepare for your homebirth, ensuring you feel fully supported and equipped. We can support you with home water births, hypnobirthing, instinctive birthing, delayed cord clamping, and placental encapsulation. We usually stay with you for between two to four hours after birth to ensure the safety of you and your baby before we leave.
-
Advocacy is at the core of what we do. We believe in empowering our clients to make informed decisions about their own bodies and birthing experiences. We are dedicated to providing evidence-based information, ensuring that you have all the knowledge necessary to make choices that align with your values and preferences. We will support you in navigating the healthcare system, helping you understand your rights and options, and advocating for your needs throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum period.
In addition to advocacy, we recognise the importance of emotional support during this time. Pregnancy and childbirth can bring about a range of emotions, from excitement and joy to anxiety and fear. We are here to provide a compassionate and non-judgmental space for you to express your feelings, concerns, and fears. We believe in the power of active listening and open communication, ensuring that you feel heard, understood, and supported every step of the way.
-
We aim to ensure the presence of a second midwife at every home birth. Safety is our utmost priority and all birth can be unpredictable. Having an additional skilled professional on hand allows for a more efficient response to any unexpected situations that may arise. With two midwives, we can closely monitor both the birthing person and the baby, ensuring that any potential complications are promptly identified and addressed.
-
The time constraints faced by NHS midwives often limit the amount of time they can spend with each person. In contrast, we have the flexibility to allocate more time to our clients, ensuring that all questions are answered, concerns are addressed, and emotional support is provided. This additional attention, fosters a sense of trust and confidence, empowering women to actively participate resulting in personalised care.
-
All our visits are carried out in the comfort of your home. These are usually daily for the first few days and then slowly spaced out depending on you and your baby. Visits cover Essential postnatal mother and baby checks
Including baby weigh-ins, jaundice monitoring, monitoring the health and development of your baby, newborn blood spot screening and recovery post-birth.

-
Not only do we have extensive training in breastfeeding support but we also have the time to help guide and facilitate this with you and your baby. We provide in person support, videos and resources as well as referrals things like tongue tie separation if required.
-
We set up a whatsapp group support chat with your midwife. It creates a friendly and secure place where you can ask any questions or advice, arrange appointments, send pictures, videos and test results. It also gives you easy access to both your primary and secondary midwife in one place.
-
Your midwife will be on hand 24/7 to provide you with advice and support or for emergencies. You have a dedicated number that will come straight through to your named midwife but in the event, she is on another call or with a client, you will have a named second midwife.
